Appalachian Trail 101: Venomous Snakes



For our little buddy back in Alabama:

What are the two types of venomous snakes in Maryland, and what are the two physical characteristics to look for to distinguish it from non-venomous snakes?

    Northern Copperhead & Timberland Rattle Snakes

    Slit pupil - not round
    Single scales on bottom of tail - not double

    Triangle shaped head that is bigger than the neck
